The Cinémathèque québécoise celebrates the 30th edition of the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois
The Cinémathèque québécoise is proud to be once again associated with the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois (RVCQ) on the occasion of its 30th edition, which will held from February 15th to 30th. The Cinémathèque will once more serve as the headquarters of the festival by opening all of its projection rooms, exhibition spaces and meeting places to those who love Quebec cinema—moviegoers as well as industry players.
In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Rendez-vous, the Cinémathèque has collaborated to the production of tribute videos honouring the pioneers of the Quebec cinema industry by opening its conservation facilities to the RVCQ and thus making accessible an important amount of fascinating archival materials.
Moreover, the Cinémathèque québécoise will present the film which kicked off the first edition of the festival in 1982, Les fleurs sauvages by Jean-Pierre Lefebvre.
Les fleurs sauvages by Jean-Pierre Lefebvre
The Cinémathèque québécoise will pay tribute to the RVCQ by allowing the public to rediscover Jean-Pierre Lefebvre’s Les fleurs sauvages, the film that lunched the first Rendez-vous 30 years ago. Starring Michèle Magny, Marte Nadeau and Pierre Curzi, this delicate and touching portrait of a family was awarded the FIPRESCI prize at the 1982 Cannes Film Festival. Thus, on February 18th at 1pm at the salle Claude-Jutra, the Cinémathèque will screen a print of the film which has carefully been conserved in its collections since 1993.
Tribute videos honouring pioneers of Quebec film industry
To mark the 30th anniversary of the RVCQ, the Cinémathèque québécoise opened up its conservation facilities in order to contribute to the production of 30 short films aiming at honouring artists of the local film industry. Following a significant effort of research and high resolution digitisation, numerous photos, set drawings, models of various sorts and other elements were made available to the RVCQ, and used to produce the tribute videos which highlight the impressive work of many directors of photography, artistic directors and set designers, amongst many others. The videos will be screened before the regular programs of the festival. Thus, all through the 11-day run of the Rendez-vous, moviegoers from Montreal and beyond will be able to discover 30 important figures of the Quebec film industry, whose undeniable contribution to our cinematography must be recognized and celebrated.
