The Hart of London

The Hart of London

Director: Jack Chambers [Can., 1970, 79 min, 16 mm, VOA]

» (Fred Camper).

“Stan Brakhage considers this to be one of the few truly great films in the history of cinema. The Hart of London is an ambitious, scattered film that juxtaposes archival footage of disasters, urban and natural landscapes, and shots evoking the transition from life to death. This is the rare film that is effective precisely because of its raw, sprawling, inconclusive quality. So much so that it almost predicts the rejection of narrative precepts by postmodernist cinema. Impossible to reduce to a simple summary, the film is perceived differently by the viewer every time he or she watches it.”  (Fred Camper, traduction du TIFF)
