Félix & Meira
With five feature films to his credit, Maxime Giroux is a filmmaker who has been making his mark on Quebec fiction cinema for over a decade. In anticipation of what's to come, we offer a first look at his accomplished work. His films are so many different ways of supporting actors, developing fiction with their scriptwriters, with a fresh sense of detail that often draws its resources from an accomplished representation of affects.
In the presence of the director
Félix, an eccentric and penniless francophone whose wealthy father is dying, meets Meira, a Hasidic Jewish woman who is married with a child, and in search of something new. They fall in love. Félix and Meira is the story of an impossible love between two separate beings from two distinct communities, who attempt to draw each other out and to love each other despite their differences.
Maxime Giroux
Maxime Giroux is a Quebec director. He has directed short films, video clips and commercials. In 2006, his film Les Jours won the prize for best short film at the Toronto International Film Festival. The year 2008 marked his transition to feature films with the production of Demain. In 2010, he signed Jo for Jonathan, premiered at the Locarno Festival. In 2014, Giroux presented Félix et Meira at the Toronto International Film Festival where it won the award for Best Canadian Film.
