If Julien Poulin was aware that he would forever be associated with Elvis Gratton, he nonetheless demonstrated versatility, sensitivity, and quiet strength, showcasing the full range of his talent in every production he contributed to, from comedy to drama. The Cinémathèque Québécoise invites you to rediscover this remarkable actor, who passed away in January, through a selection of his works, from Elvis Gratton, le king des kings to Camion, including the short film Speak White, which he co-directed with his longtime collaborator Pierre Falardeau. The screening of Camion will be accompanied by live commentary from Rafaël Ouellet.

Germain is an experienced truck driver. After being involved in a road accident that killed a woman, his life comes to a screeching halt and he sinks into a deep state of despair. Consumed by guilt, Germain doesn't have the courage to get back at the wheel of his truck. He falls into a lethargy that worries his son, Samuel. He then heads to New Brunswick in search of his brother Alain so they can return to their childhood home and support their father.

Rafaël Ouellet
Rafaël Ouellet is a Quebecois director, cinematographer, producer and editor. He notably worked on Le Groulx Luxe - c'est n'importe quoi, a TV show broadcast on MusiquePlus during the summer of 2003 and spring of 2004. Since 1999, he has produced over one hundred musical concerts, including Our Lady Peace's 2004 Juno-nominated Live in Alberta, as well as several TV projects and ten short films. He also served as the cinematographer on various independant short films and edited Denis Côté's Drifting States (Les états nordiques, 2005), which won the Golden Leopard - Video award at Locarno. His first four features, Le cèdre penché (2007), Derrière moi (2008), New Denmark (2009) and Camion (2012), received widespread critical acclaim. Camion earned him the Best Director Award as well as the Ecumenical Jury Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Critics have praised his direction for its ability to capture the lived experiences of his characters with a style that is "free of fuss and stylistic effect". Ouellet subsequently directed several TV series, including Nouvelle adresse (2014-15), and his Family Game (Arsenault & fils) was released in 2022.
