Courthouse on Horseback
This recurring program is an opportunity to present films from various eras and origins, thanks to 35mm prints acquired over the years by the Cinémathèque québécoise. This month, Wim Vandekeybus’ Blush, a spellbinding exploration of the unconscious and passion, punctuated by dance numbers and inspired by the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice.
Carrying the national emblem, a judge, a court clerk, and an apprentice travel across rural China with a horse so that the law can be enforced. They form a mobile court. State justice thus confronts the traditions and ancestral laws of the various communities that form China.

Jie Liu is a Chinese filmmaker. He notably directed the films Courthouse on Horseback (2006), Judge (2009) and Deep in the Clouds (2010).
