Cutting the Cord
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

Sarah, a sporty, disciplined, and ambitious young Québécoise on the cusp of her 20th birthday, is torn between her family's expectations and values and her great need for independence. Deeply grateful for the sacrifices her parents made when they immigrated to Quebec decades ago, how does a second-generation immigrant cut the cord?
Émilie Porry
A native of the island of Martinique and a graduate of the International Film School of Paris (EICAR) in Paris, Émilie Porry was a journalist and camera operator before becoming a screenwriter and documentary filmmaker. Before moving to Quebec in 2018, she worked as a director for major French national channels (France 5, France Ô, TF1) and for the National Geographic Channel. She co-wrote the feature-length documentary Nitassinan with the poetess Joséphine Bacon, which is still in production. She is also the author and co-director, with Soleil Launière, of the documentary Le théâtre de l’histoire (2022), broadcast on ICI télé and ARTV. Beyond her professional life, Émilie is an adventurer. She has traveled to many countries and spent 18 months traveling solo through Asia. She is a great admirer of Alexandra David-Néel.
