Deaf perspectives: we're rolling! 2
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary Phénomena festival, which has long championed the diverse practices of Deaf artists, we are presenting two film programs. For the very first time within our walls, these programs highlight the unique contribution of Deaf filmmakers to the art of moving images.
In this documentary, Julien Bourges tells the story of Alfredo Corrado, an American deaf artist. Now recognized by the French deaf community as an important figure, he arrived in Paris in the late 70s, at a time when French sign language was outlawed and despised. This unique documentary on Alfredo Corrado also tells the story of the creation of the International Visual Theatre at the Château de Vincennes, the first theater dedicated to deaf culture in France. An adventure that truly changed the history of the deaf community in France.
