Death Does Not Exist
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.
The November 17 screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker

After a failed armed attack on wealthy landowners, Hélène abandons her companions and flees into the forest. Manon, one of her friends and accomplices, returns to haunt her. Hélène has to revisit her convictions and choices, in a valley where metamorphoses and great upheavals disrupt the natural order of things.

Félix Dufour-Laperrière
Born in 1981 in Chicoutimi, Félix Dufour-Laperrière is a filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. His work, which shows a constant tension between narrative and formal exploration, maintains a close connection with the visual and contemporary arts. His films, among which the documentary Transatlantic (IFFR Rotterdam 2014), have been presented in numerous festivals, museums and events of importance, where they have won several awards. Ville Neuve (2018), his first animated feature, drawn and painted entirely on paper, had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. His animated documentary essay, Archipelago, premiered in 2021 in competition in Rotterdam. His fourth feature film Death Does Not Exist (2025) had its world premiere in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.
