Dialogue between Solomon Nagler and Alexandre Larose
Portraits emerges from a collaboration between filmmaker Alexandre Larose and curator Nicole Gingras. This selection, divided into three programs, explores fifteen years of an artist's practice, celebrated and recognized for his unique research on moving images, his vision, and the material quality of his works. Portraits complements the exhibition Alexandre Larose – Chutes, presented at VOX, Centre de l’image contemporaine, from September 5 to December 7, 2024, adding to this significant focus curated by Nicole Gingras. The third program is a dialogue between Alexandre Larose and filmmaker Solomon Nagler around four films from their respective filmographies, one commenting on the other's film and vice versa.

Alexandre Larose
Alexandre Larose is a moving image artist based in Montreal. His work focuses on the representation of space and figures, exploring how the unique qualities of the cinematic medium can bring them to life. He frequently collaborates with engineers and technicians to experiment with and transform the camera’s perspective. His films have been featured in solo screenings at film festivals and exhibitions, including the Mostra de Cinema Periférico (La Coruña, Spain, 2022), FIFA Experimental at the International Festival of Films on Art (Montreal, 2018), the Halifax Independent Film Festival (2016), and the Austrian Film Museum (Vienna, 2017). His installations have been shown at venues such as the George Eastman Museum, WRO Media Art Biennale, La Bande Vidéo, and the Cinémathèque québécoise.
