From Hilde, with Love
Once a month, the Goethe-Institut collaborates with the Cinémathèque québécoise to present a significant work of contemporary German cinema: fiction films, documentaries, bold and entertaining productions by established and emerging filmmakers.
Premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024
Berlin, 1942: it was the most beautiful summer for Hilde – madly in love with Hans and joyfully pregnant. But amid the passion there is grave danger. Hans becomes involved in the anti-Nazi resistance, with a group of young people who will later be called the “Red Orchestra”. Despite the huge risks, Hilde decides to get involved.

Andreas Dresen
Andreas Dresen is a German film director. Starting in 1985, Dresen directed several short films, documentaries, and films for television, and wrote screenplays. His directing credits include Night Shapes (1999), Grill Point (2002), Summer in Berlin (2005) and Cloud 9 (2008). His film Stopped on Track (2011) premiered at the Un Certain Regard section at the Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prix Un Certain Regard. Dresen is known for his realistic style, which gives his films a semi-documentary feel. He works very team-oriented and heavily uses improvisation. His most successful film to date is Gundermann (2018), a biopic about the East German singer-songwriter Gerhard Gundermann, who died prematurely in 1998. It had taken Dresen twelve years to get funding for the film. From Hilde, with Love (2024) is his latest film.
