Jour de référendum
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

October 30, 1995. Québécois are heading to the polls. Although the answer is simple, yes or no, the question itself is more complex and still stirs up strong feelings on both sides, even 30 years later.

Carl Leblanc
Carl Leblanc is a writer, screenwriter, and documentary filmmaker. He has directed around twenty documentary films, including five feature-length films : L’otage (2004), Le coeur d’Auschwitz (finalist for the Jutra 2011), Nation : huis clos avec Lucien Bouchard (2015), Le commun des mortels (2017) and Perdre Mario (2021). He won the Gémeaux for Best Documentary for Canada By Night and for Best Director for a Documentary Series for La boîte noire. This fall, alongside the release of the documentary Jour de référendum (2025), he is also publishing a new novel entitled Le printemps en novembre with XYZ Publishing.
