Made to Walk
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

In an age of sedentary living, Made to Walk travels the world to meet scientists and walkers, revealing how a gesture as simple as walking can transform our lives, and what we risk losing if we stop doing so.

Vali Fugulin
Vali Fugulin is a documentary filmmaker who explores reality through sensitive narratives deeply rooted in human experience. Her work unfolds at the intersection of cinema and interactive and immersive storytelling, which she considers extensions of the documentary language. Through her films and digital works, she explores themes of memory, identity, and the connections that bind individuals to one another and to the world. Trained at Concordia University and L’Institut national de l’image et du son (INIS), she was a creator-in-residence at the National Film Board of Canada Interactive Studio for two years, where she created Toi, moi et la Charte and the innovative serious game I Love Potatoes. Over the course of her career, she has directed several award-winning documentaries and series, including AI: To Be or Not To Be (Radio-Canada), Danser l’espoir (International Festival of Films on Art), Tupperware: Recipes for Success, Les Laboratoires Crête, and www.six.lemondeestpetit.ca. Her work in immersive creation includes TRACES: The Grief Processor, presented notably at SXSW and Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal, a project that represents an important contribution to new forms of experiential VR documentary. Her works have been critically acclaimed and have received numerous awards, including Numix Awards, Prix Gémeaux, and Canadian Screen Awards. Through her work, she seeks to reveal what, within the intimate, resonates with the universal.
