Rebuilding
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

A gently humanist story of the American West, Rebuilding follows Dusty, a reserved, divorced father whose ranch has burned down in a devastating wildfire. Now living in a trailer community on a FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) campsite, Dusty finds solace with his new neighbors who have also lost everything, quietly reassembles his life, and starts reconnecting with his ex-wife Ruby and young daughter Callie-Rose.

Max Walker-Silverman
Max Walker-Silverman is a writer and director from southwest Colorado. He studied at Stanford University and NYU Graduate Film. His first film, A Love Song, premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and the Berlinale. It was nominated for multiple Gotham and Independent Spirit Awards, including the John Cassavetes Award. He lives and works where he grew up, in the mountains.

Dévoilé à Sundance en janvier 2025, Rebuilding, qui met en vedette Josh O’Connor, fut l’un des films les mieux reçus de la dernière année. Un an plus tard paraît enfin chez nous ce drame d’une retenue admirable, dans lequel un propriétaire de ranch refermé sur lui-même s’ouvre au monde après avoir tout perdu dans un feu de forêt. L’attente en aura valu la peine. En exclusivité, [Le Devoir] a pu s’entretenir avec Max Walker-Silverman, jeune scénariste-réalisateur qui a su s’imposer en deux longs métrages seulement.
