Silent Animated Films
To coincide with the exceptional circumstances of hosting the annual congress of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF), we are offering a program highlighting the strengths of our collections and our mandate: animated film gems, world premiere commissioned works, newly restored features, documentaries devoted to heritage questions and the reuse of archives.
To launch the 2025 FIAF Congress, the Cinémathèque québécoise is delighted to present five gems from its collection, showcasing one of its specialties: international animation. Accompanied by its pianist-in-residence, Gabriel Thibaudeau, this screening is an opportunity to pay tribute to the geniuses of the silent era. The maestro will also accompany Gordon Webber's abstract hand-painted film, created at McGill University in the late 1940s. This film was restored by the Cinémathèque in early 2010.
