Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds
Animation has always been at the heart of the Cinémathèque québécoise's conservation and programming activities. This program aims to rediscover some of our heritage, and to showcase recent productions.

Juliette and Carmen’s neighbor, Agnes, writes children’s books that take place in a fantastic world, the Kingdom of the Winds. The two sisters discover a passage between their world and this extraordinary universe. Once there, the two girls take on the appearance of cats, and discover the existence of Sirocco, this terrifying character capable of controlling the wind.

Benoît Chieux
Benoît Chieux is a French animation filmmaker known for his work with the Folimage studio, where he has co-directed short and feature-length films. His animated short film Tigers Tied Up in One Rope (2015), based on the eponymous album illustrated by South Korean artist Kwoon Moon-hee, was nominated for the César Award for Best Animated Short Film in 2016. His subsequent short, Midnight’s Garden (2017), received a nomination in the same category in 2018. In 2023, he released Sirocco and the Kingdom of Winds, his second feature film as writer-director (after Aunt Hilda! in 2014), which opened the 2023 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award.
