Sur le seuil
Cinema is a screen onto which we can project our fears, torments and the monstrosities of the world. The screen protects us from what we see, but cinema has also permanently anchored our nightmares around a few powerful images (empty houses, hostile attics and basements, demonic masks, bloodcurdling grimaces, disturbing postures). Throughout the summer, the Cinémathèque québécoise will be presenting a series of films encompassing more than one hundred and twenty years of horror, reminding us that what scares us most is to make the deepest of our fears tangible and credible.
A massacre hits the headlines, raising many questions. On the same day, Thomas Roy, an internationally-renowned writer of horror novels, attempts suicide after cutting off his fingers. Nothing seemed to link the two events until psychiatrist Paul Lacasse inherited the case.
Encouraged by his young colleague Jeanne, a fan of Roy's, Paul investigates the past of this patient he thought was normal. Harassed in his research by Monette, a gossip columnist, Paul gradually discovers the troubling circumstances that will shake all his certainties.
As he tries to piece together the impossible puzzle to better care for the famous writer, Paul will be drawn into a series of events with terrifying circumstances.
