Billy Wilder
Billy Wilder is an American director, producer, and screenwriter of film noirs and comedies. He is one of the most influential figures in 20th-century American cinema, especially in the 1950s and 1960s. Four of his films are included in the American Film Institute's Top 100 list, a distinction shared only with Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. Over his career, he directed fourteen actors who earned Academy Award nominations for their performances. In the 2002 Sight & Sound poll, he was ranked seventh greatest director of all time. In 1986, he received the AFI Life Achievement Award, an honor given annually by the American Film Institute for outstanding contributions to the art of film.
