A close-knit and happy family is plunged into grief and guilt following the accidental death of their son. More than just a reflection on death, this film focuses on depicting the reactions of those left behind—particularly the father, a psychoanalyst who is accustomed to dealing with others’ suffering, but is now confronted with his own pain.

Nanni Moretti
Nanni Moretti is an Italian film director, screenwriter and actor. He is also a film producer, distributor and cinema exhibitor through his companies Sacher Film, Sacher Distribuzione and his theater, Nuovo Sacher. A leading figure in European cinema, he has built a cohesive body of work that develops a personal form of autofiction, alternating between drama, satire and activism. He acts in all his films., which seek to reconcile the neorealist tradition with the codes of Italian comedy, forming a vast and subjective chronicle of a politicized Italy of the post-May '68 era to the early 21st century. He won the Palme d'or at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival for The Son's Room.
