We have several dozen Cuban films in our archives, allowing us to document the inspiration and creativity of filmmakers who, shortly after the Cuban revolution, devoted their cameras to documenting daily life, individual questions and collective movements.

In 1961, 100,000 students were sent into the Cuban countryside to teach peasants to read. Mario, a 15-year-old, arrives in a tiny village in the Zapata swamps and gradually gains the villagers' support as he learns about the harsh realities of rural life.
Octavio Cortázar
Octavio Cortázar is a Cuban film director and screenwriter. He directed 12 films between 1961 and 2005. His 1977 film The Teacher was entered into the 28th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution.
