Bruce Lee
Bruce Lee was a Hong Kong-American martial artist, actor, and filmmaker. Alongside his acting career, he created his own martial art, Jeet Kune Do. Considered the greatest martial arts master in 20th-century world cinema, he paved the way for other Asian martial arts film stars such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, and Donnie Yen, as well as Western actors like Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal, and Jean-Claude Van Damme, and African-American actors such as Wesley Snipes and Michael Jai White. Thanks to his contributions to film and television, Bruce Lee embodies for many the strong man who has reached the pinnacle of physical perfection and invincibility in unarmed combat. His fame played a significant role in sparking Western audiences’ interest in Chinese martial arts. His untimely death at the age of 32 helped cement his status as a legend in both cinema and martial arts. In Hong Kong, it gave rise to a whole genre of films marketed as “Bruce Lee movies”: “Bruceploitation.”
