Twist à Bamako
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.
Mali, 1960. The youth of Bamako dance the twist to rock and roll music newly imported from the West and dream of political renewal. Samba, a young socialist, falls for spirited Lara during one of his missions to the bush. To escape her forced marriage, she secretly flees with him to the city. But Lara’s husband won’t let them be and the Revolution soon brings painful disillusions as they dream of a future together.

Robert Guédiguian
Robert Guédiguian, born December 3, 1953 in Marseille, is a French film director, producer and screenwriter of Armenian and German origin. In 1997, he was awarded the Louis-Delluc Prize for his film Marius and Jeannette, selected at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.
