Les nouvelles vagues
This recurring cycle is an opportunity to watch or re-watch classics from cinema history, or films representative of certain national cinematographies, trends or eras, on the big screen.
Conference by Victor Norek (Le CinématoGrapheur)
This conference by Victor Norek, a film history communicator, will explore the multitude of 'neos' that have shaped the evolution of cinema since the mid-20th century. Neorealism, French New Wave, New Hollywood, New Cinemas, and Dogme95 are all movements that have fundamentally redefined the art of filmmaking. Building on this observation, the talk will also demonstrate how the audience’s gaze has gradually transformed over time.
Duration: 90 min.
Victor Norek created the YouTube channel Le CinématoGrapheur to analyze and dissect blockbusters, with the aim of restoring popcorn cinema to its former glory. He is the author of the book Steven Spielberg: L'art du blockbuster and writes for Rockyrama magazine in France. He has been based in Montreal since 2021.
This discussion will take place in French.
A must-see screening!
Jean-Luc Godard's film Breathless will be screened immediately after the conference, at 8 p.m. The film will be screened in French, in a 35mm print from our collections.
