Spielberg & Lucas, the beginnings

It is impossible to dedicate a cycle to science fiction without including Steven Spielberg & Georges Lucas, these two pivotal figures of SF in cinema. Alongside their iconic films (E.T., Star Wars), it seems instructive to showcase all the films they made leading up to their historic collaboration, Raiders of the Lost Ark, which explicitly references Fritz Lang's The Indian Tomb.

A Talk with Victor Norek (Le CinématoGrapheur) | In this engaging lecture, Victor Norek explores the origins of the blockbuster in Hollywood, shedding light on the daring artists who shaped it, the artistic perspectives they championed, the challenges they overcame, and the paradigm shift this phenomenon brought in the industry from the 1970s and 1980s to the present day.

Victor Norek is the creator of the YouTube channel Le CinématoGrapheur, which focuses on the analysis and deconstruction of blockbuster films, aiming to elevate the so-called "popcorn cinema." He is also the author of the book L’œuvre de Steven Spielberg : L'art du blockbuster published by Third Éditions, where he delves into Spielberg's filmography. Victor Norek writes for Rockyrama magazine in France and has been living in Montreal since 2021.

The discussion will be held in French.
