Internationally renowned in the areas of audiovisual conservation, restoration and digitization, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is the producer, distributor and caretaker of more than 14,000 Canadian titles created over the last eight decades. Our challenge: preserving these works and keeping them accessible.

Marie-France Rousseau, who heads the Preservation and Restoration Labs, joins Technical Resources director Steve Hallé to present the NFB’s wide-ranging expertise, which can be found in equal measure at its downtown Montreal headquarters and its Conservation Rooms.

Visit the exhibition Jean-Marc Vallée: Mixtape at PHI Centre
Jean-Marc Vallée: Mixtape is an exhibition that offers visitors a multimedia and sound journey into the memory and work of the director for whom emotion was a rich territory, lived, felt and expressed through music.
Drawing on the testimonies of his collaborators and those close to him, inspired by his love of music, the exhibition paints a portrait of the artist and explores the legacies he left behind.
Music was the starting point for all the projects of Jean-Marc Vallée, and his greatest source of inspiration for his films, his characters, his dreams and his life. Mixtapes were an essential part of his creative process. He shared them with friends and collaborators, and created them specifically for his future creations.
Mixtape is composed of four installations and a sound environment that accompanies and envelops the public along the way. These different spaces highlight a number of key moments in Vallée's career, but are above all an invitation to delve into the artist's mind and music, to discover what inspired him in his daily life, what influenced him in his creation, and what was translated to the big screen.

Visit the exhibition Joyce Wieland: Heart On at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
Celebrating the radical art-making of Joyce Wieland (1930-1998), this large-scale exhibition offers an in-depth look at one of the most influential Canadian artists of her time.
This ambitious career retrospective – her first in nearly forty years– is also the most comprehensive, and positions Wieland as a critical international figure of 20th-century art and film.
Encompassing the full arc of her career that spanned four decades, Heart On brings together over one hundred works of drawing, painting, collage, film, textile and print. Spotlighting the concerns that informed Wieland’s creative output, namely her engagement with feminism, social justice and ecology, this exhibition explores her unique approach to art-making and the enduring relevance of her oeuvre to contemporary issues.
Co-organized with the Art Gallery of Ontario, this exhibition benefits from a close collaboration with Cinémathèque québécoise on Wieland’s films, as well as with the National Gallery of Canada, which has generously loaned a significant number of the artist’s major works.
