Monia Chokri

Trained at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal, Monia Chokri is an actress, screenwriter, and director. She worked for several years between Canada and France as a performer in theater and cinema. She turned to directing in 2013 with the short film An Extraordinary Person, which earned her several awards including the Jutra for Best Fiction Short Film and the Grand Prize at the South By Southwest Festival in 2014. A Brother's Love (2019), her debut feature film which she also wrote, was acclaimed at the Cannes Film Festival, where she won the Jury's Coup de Cœur award in the Un Certain Regard section. Her third feature film, The Nature of Love, is also presented in this section in 2023. As an actress, she worked with several directors including Denys Arcand, Robin Aubert, Claire Simon, and Katell Quillévéré. It was through the role of Marie in Xavier Dolan’s Heartbeats (2010) that she became known to the general public.
