A Thousand Months
Rarely seen in traditional cinema distribution channels, Algerian, Tunisian, and Moroccan films are preserved at the Cinémathèque québécoise. This program aims to make these films more accessible.

1981, Morocco. Seven-year-old Mehdi moves with his mother to live with his grandfather in a village in the Atlas Mountains. As he settles into his new environment, he is unaware that his father is in prison. His mother has kept this from him to protect him, but at what cost?

Faouzi Bensaïdi
Faouzi Bensaïdi is a Moroccan film director, screenwriter, and actor. He trained as an actor at the Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Animation in Rabat, then at the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Paris in 1995. After several stage productions in theater, he transitioned to directing short films in 1997, notably The Cliff (La falaise), which won several awards at festivals. He co-wrote the screenplay for André Téchiné's Far (Loin) in 1999, then directed his first feature film, A Thousand Months (Mille mois), in 2003. His film Volubilis was selected for the Venice Days section at the 2017 Venice International Film Festival.
