Bay of Pigs
We have several dozen Cuban films in our archives, allowing us to document the inspiration and creativity of filmmakers who, shortly after the Cuban revolution, devoted their cameras to documenting daily life, individual questions and collective movements.
Condemning American imperialism, Herrera gives a detailed account of the failed Bay of Pigs invasion, intimately blending archival footage with scenes re-enacted in the style of a newsreel: participants in the actual event take part in the re-enactment and act in front of the camera, adopting a method inspired by The First Charge of the Machete; the effect is strikingly dramatic.
