Alice, a Tokyo-based seismologist, is dispatched to a small town on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River in Quebec to investigate a peculiar phenomenon: the stopping of the tides. The Japanese fear an earthquake on a global scale, and for them, the fact that Alice was born in this town is considered an omen. Alice has made up her mind not to reconnect with her hometown, which only evokes bad memories of her childhood.
Manon Briand
A Concordia University graduate, screenwriter and director, Manon Briand first made a name for herself with short and medium-length films (Les saufs-conduits – Prix du meilleur espoir au Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois, Croix de bois, Picoti Picota), before taking part in the collective film Cosmos, crowned at Cannes' Directors' Fortnight in 1995. Her first feature, 2 Seconds (1998), was acclaim at numerous film festivals, and earned her recognition as one of Variety magazine's Top New Directors to Watch for. Since then, she has directed Heart: The Marylin Bell Story (1999) for television, written numerous screenplays in both French and English, and directed La turbulence des fluides (Jutra Award for Best Foreign Film) in 2002, as well as Liverpool (Artistic Merit Award at the Vancouver Film Festival) in 2012. She recently released Tous Toqués! in 2024.
