Philip Noyce

Phillip Noyce is an Australian filmmaker. He directed his first short film at the age of 17, and won awards for his documentary, Castor and Pollux (1973). He made a name for himself with the 1989 thriller Dead Calm, starring Nicole Kidman, Sam Neill and Billy Zane. He directed box office successes for Hollywood, such as Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994) with Harrison Ford. He also directed the controversial thriller Sliver starring Sharon Stone and The Bone Collector starring Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington, before returning to Australia for a more personal project: Rabbit-Proof Fence (2002). Those projects led him to travel to Vietnam, where he shot a new version of The Quiet American (2003) and to South Africa where he directed Catch a Fire (2006). In 2010, he shifted to a more high-octane style with Salt, an action-spy film in which he reunited with Angelina Jolie. He is currently working on a thriller starring Viola Davis.
