Deaf perspectives: we're rolling! 1
Curated by Emilie Peltier, these works — conceived and told by filmmakers from the Deaf community, somewhere between documentary and fiction — are for the most part premiering in Montreal. By bringing together the Deaf and hearing communities and shining a light on a largely unseen cinema, we are celebrating the vitality of a narrative field that has yet to be fully explored.
The screening will be preceded by a cocktail at 5 p.m. at the Café-Bar, in partnership with Cinéall.
The projection will be followed by a Q&A with the guests in attendance.
LSQ and ASL interpreters will be on hand to facilitate communication.
Deaf filmmakers are producers, scriptwriters, cinematographers... They are often self-taught due to lack of access to professional training. Documentary, fiction, poetry, experimental, whatever the genre of the films presented mostly tackle subjects linked to Deaf history, Deaf culture, audism (discrimination against Deaf people), etc. Come and immerse yourself in the worlds of our guests, and discuss with them what motivates them to take up the camera and tell their stories. Because, yes, this is all about telling THEIR stories from THEIR perspectives.
All the films presented have been written, directed and/or produced by Deaf Quebecois or Canadian filmmakers.
