American Experimental Cinema by Women

In conversation with Sylvano Santini (UQAM), we are presenting a selection of works that literally transformed experimental cinema, in the United States and beyond. Maya Deren built upon the surrealist approach while helping inspire structural cinema, which would dominate the East Coast experimental film scene for years to come. Carolee Schneemann was a pioneer of performance cinema, marked by a hyper-eroticization of the human body. Marie Menken created an unrivaled body of work rooted in the observation of the outdoors and visual sketches.
