This recurring cycle provides an opportunity to present to the public films from various eras and origins thanks to copies recently acquired by the Cinémathèque québécoise. This month, Gus Van Sant's second feature film, Drugstore Cowboy, takes us into the drug-addled America of the 1970s through the adaptation of James Fogle's eponymous autobiographical novel.
Survivors of a bloody hostage situation on a bus, a brother and sister close in on themselves. When their father dies, they are left alone, adrift. The third survivor of the event, the bus driver, moves in with them and tries to take care of them. He suggests that they go on a trip, hoping that it will be liberating.
Shinji Aoyama
Shinji Aoyama débute en réalisant des films en 8 mm. Il entre à l'université Rikkyō où il suit les cours de critique du cinéma de Shigehiko Hasumi. À sa sortie, il fait ses premiers pas dans la profession comme assistant-perchman, puis devient assistant réalisateur et travaille entre autres avec Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Il s'investit aussi comme critique aux Cahiers du Cinéma Japon et à Esquire Japan. En 2000, Eureka produit par Takenori Sentō est présenté en compétition au Festival de Cannes. Il obtient le Prix de la Critique internationale et du Jury œcuménique.
