Starting in the 1960s, Super 8 gave an entire generation the opportunity to shoot their own films and fostered the emergence of a new, resolutely independent cinema. In Quebec, this movement was championed by the Association pour le jeune cinéma québécois, which founded the Quebec International Super 8 Film Festival in 1980. Jean Hamel, co-founder of this landmark event, is the guest programmer for this film series, which accompanies the publication of our thematic issue dedicated to this period. These programs, featuring films primarily drawn from our collections and digitized for the first time, offer a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the vibrancy and creativity of the Super 8 era.

This is the story of a date. Robert meets Huguette on the subway. He takes her to the movies. Later, Huguette buys him a drink. Huguette and Robert understand each other. Huguette will spend the night at Robert's place.
Pierre, a young man in his twenties, is approached by a young gay man at a party. Back home, after getting out of the shower, he finds a photo of the stranger in his pants pocket—one the stranger had slipped in there—with his phone number written on the back. This incident causes Pierre to question his identity.
That morning, Zéda was convinced that there was only one possible solution left: she had to leave. But for Béno, things were unfolding differently. To him, it was obvious that the only thing that mattered, the only thing that was important in his life now, was to follow her... to follow her to the very end.
Among the socially awkward people are those whose personalities prevent them from fitting in normally with their surroundings. Their fate is uncertain. They will either succeed in asserting themselves at the cost of great inner struggles, or they will come up against the indifference of others.
