The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

Alexe Poukine
Alexe Poukine is a filmmaker, actress, and screenwriter. After taking drama classes, she studied anthropology, documentary filmmaking, and screenwriting. Her documentaries, Dormir, Dormir dans les pierres (2014), Sans frapper (2019), and Sauve qui peut (2024) have won numerous awards at film festivals. In 2020, she directed Palma, in which she plays the lead role. This medium-length film won the Grand Prize at the Brive Film Festival and the Jury Prize at the Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival. Kika (2025) is her first feature-length fiction film.
