The God of Cookery
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Fantasia Festival, we present a film series in the image of this now-unmissable event: eclectic and exhilarating. These works, which have shaped the festival’s history over the years, reflect the variety of its programming – from cult classics to hidden gems, from masters of genre cinema to the audacious fringes of arthouse film, charting a fantastic journey across eras, styles, and cultures.

The God of Cookery, Stephen Chow, is the nickname given to a cook who lacks talent but has built an enviable reputation in the media. He is betrayed by a businessman he works with and replaced by another chef who ridicules him. Chow will have to redouble his efforts to try to become The God of Cookery once again.
Stephen Chow & Lee Lik-chi
Stephen Chow is a Hong Kong actor, screenwriter, filmmaker, and producer. Mainly known in the West for his film Shaolin Soccer (2001), he is dubbed the "King of Comedy" in Hong Kong and is famous throughout Asia. He is the most iconic representative of the Hong Kong style of humor that appeared in the 1970s, a juxtaposition of parodies of classic Chinese themes, kung-fu, and absurd dialogue. Four of his first five films were co-directed by Lee Lik-chi.
