Founded by Jeanne Mance in 1642 at the same time as the city, the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal is about to disappear to be replaced by a new health centre. The film immerses us in an enclosed world filled with humanity, where life, death, love and friendship coexist in close proximity.
Annabel Loyola
Annabel Loyola is a multi-talented filmmaker. After working in film production, acquisition and distribution in Paris and Montreal, she began directing her own projects. In 2010, she directed her first documentary, A Mad Venture, in the Footsteps of Jeanne Mance, for which she received the Medal of the Société historique de Montréal. The film was the starting point for the process that led to official recognition of Jeanne Mance as the founder of Montreal in 2012. Her documentary film, The Last Breath, at the Heart of the Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal (2017), released to mark the 375th anniversary of Hôtel-Dieu and Montréal, was selected as an international premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival. In 2022, her film City of a Dream was released in Quebec, completing her trilogy on the founding of Montreal.
