To mark the passing of this muse of French song and cinema, we present one of her iconic films, La Pirate by Jacques Doillon, of which we retain a beautiful 35mm print.

Jacques Doillon
Jacques Doillon is a French director, producer, screenwriter, editor and occasional actor. Doillon started out as an editor, notably on documentaries such as Paris-secret by Édouard Logereau in 1965 and Paris top secret by Pierre Roustang in 1969. In 1973, he directed his first feature film, L'An 01, based on the comics Gébé. In 1994, he was inspired by the story of Germaine de Staël and Benjamin Constant to shoot a feature-length cinema film Du fond du cœur and a twelve-part television version Germaine et Benjamin. His intimate, personal films reflect on childhood, frustration, torment, the complexity of feelings and class differences . In 2013, the Entrevues International Film Festival in Belfort dedicated a retrospective to him. In 2019, he is the guest of honor at the Festival Films Courts de Dinan, where he is reunited with director Jean Becker.
