VIVRE - Le Spectacle spectral
Our summer cycle will be festive or not. Sound and image, song and dance, instrument and breathing, strings and gestures: so many possible combinations to express what cinema and music can achieve and express together. Musicals, concert films, catchy music. Jazz, classical, contemporary, disco, punk... Revolt and enchantment, distress and emphasis, joy and rhythm, melancholy and bass, laughter and stridency: diverse expressions characterizing cinema and music's historical alliance, will definitely make us fly, dream, dance!
From the 30's to the present day and across all possible genres, this cycle aims to open our minds at a time when we most need it. The first week of July will be an eventful one, as the cycle will open with several evenings in cabaret mode, where we will present for the first time concert films produced in Quebec during the confinement, with the participation of major artists of the current music scene: Klô Pelgag, Marie Davidson and Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
This spectral show is a surprise of great proportions. A virtual concert halfway between an egg sandwich and the year 3000 bug.
Klô Pelgag and director Laurence “Baz” Morais have united to imagine the grand premiere of Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, the concert. Unable to play the songs from her new album in front of an audience, Klô Pelgag will dive into everything that was lacking from the last year, everything that was taken away from her, in order to present a concert film filled with fantasy. This spectral concert is an epic surprise party, an unparalleled birthday bash, as well as the mise en abîme of a bucket list.
Klô Pelgag will take risks while accompanying viewers into a world of special effects and bizarre experiences. Braving the elements to present an immersive concert film, she will be joined by some fifteen musicians, making up the band Les grands-mères à broil, as well as several technicians/spectators. An uncompromising journey out of time – a must see!
Laurence "Baz" Morais
Laurence Morais Lagacé alias « BAZ » est entré en Digital Image Sound and the Fine Arts à l’Université Concordia en 2001. Quelques années plus tard il en ressortait avec un bac en Design Art et une passion pour l’art numérique sous toutes ses formes. Depuis, il n’a pas chômé; de la création de la première webtélé québécoise en 2005 avec son émission Voxpop Montreal sur le site 33mag.tv, il s’est rapidement imposé comme l’un des réalisateurs les plus éclatés de la relève. Après avoir réalisé près d’une cinquantaine de vidéoclips, pour des artistes tels que Philippe B et Karim Ouellet, et remporté plusieurs prix et sélections officielles pour des courts-métrages, Baz s’est lancé de nouveaux défis. Dans les dernières années, on l’a vu, entre autres, créer la première exposition d’images GIF à Montréal et concevoir la mise en scène des spectacles de la musicienne Klô Pelgag. Parues en juin 2020, les chansons de Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs, le troisième album de Klô Pelgag, n’ont à peu près pas vécu sur scène, pour la raison que l’on connaît. Elles vivront alors à l’écran vendredi soir, sous la lentille fébrile de Laurence « Baz » Morais, réalisateur de ce Spectacle spectral présenté, à la manière dadaïste qu’affectionne l’iconoclaste musicienne, comme « un concert virtuel à mi-chemin entre un sandwich aux œufs et le bogue de l’an 3000 »...
