Cycle d’ateliers wiki sur la diversité territoriale

Collectively documenting Quebec cinema on Wikimedia platforms

From 2017 to 2024, the Cinémathèque québécoise hosted a series of participatory workshops open to the public as part of its Savoirs Communs du Cinéma initiative. These meetings helped raise awareness of Quebec filmmakers and contributed to documenting their careers and works on Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.

Over the years, these workshops have expanded to include new topics and regions: one cycle was devoted to arts organizations that play a key role in the development of film and video in Montreal. Then, thanks to key partnerships with the Table de concertation interrégionale en cinéma (TaCIC) and several regional film festivals, the Cinémathèque québécoise was able to offer these workshops outside the city, thus promoting greater geographical inclusion in the documentation of Quebec's film heritage.

By joining forces with these industry leaders, we wanted to encourage inspiring local collaborative practices that would spread throughout the regional film industry. These initiatives helped revive the Quebec Cinema Project on Wikipedia and support regional players such as the Wikiclub Croissant Boréal, based outside major urban centers.

The workshops also affirmed a strong commitment to better representation of women in the Quebec film industry. They complemented the international campaigns Art+Feminism and Les sans pagEs, pursuing the goal of greater gender equity on wiki platforms and in cultural heritage narratives.

Welcomed in a friendly and inclusive spirit, these meetings were open to everyone—beginners or experienced contributors, professionals or simply curious individuals—with the aim of sharing knowledge and strengthening the visibility of Quebec cinema actors.
