Artist's Talk Sommets x NFB | Hayat Najm
We know the event, the festival organized by the Cinémathèque québécoise presenting the best of animation film. But the Sommets also host a series of animated events held at the Cinémathèque or elsewhere, and which showcase new releases as well as memorable films from the past, short and feature films, screenings at the indoors and outdoors, film lessons and other events.

The Sommets du cinéma d’animation, in partnership with NFB, is pleased to invite you to an Artist’s Talk with Hayat Najm
Hayat Najm is a Lebanese-born visual artist and animation filmmaker based in Montreal.
Hayat describes her artistic exploration as “visual poetry.” She uses charcoal drawing, her favourite medium, as a means of expressing inner worlds and experiences directly on paper.
During this one-hour talk, the filmmaker will be discussing the creative process behind her first animated short, produced by the National Film Board of Canada. A film about the resilience of women, The Sounds of Things Ablaze (2025) features a female protagonist who relives the horrors of a war that continues to haunt her every day.
This talk will be given in French.
