Ascension
Cinema is a screen onto which we can project our fears, torments and the monstrosities of the world. The screen protects us from what we see, but cinema has also permanently anchored our nightmares around a few powerful images (empty houses, hostile attics and basements, demonic masks, bloodcurdling grimaces, disturbing postures). Throughout the summer, the Cinémathèque québécoise will be presenting a series of films encompassing more than one hundred and twenty years of horror, reminding us that what scares us most is to make the deepest of our fears tangible and credible.
The Creator God was murdered, thus unleashing miracles on Earth. Unfortunately, men abused his manna, turning life into chaos. Only a few people are still alive. Three women arrive in No Man's Land, climbing into an old industrial structure to find God's killer...
Karim Hussain
Karim Hussain is a Canadian filmmaker and cinematographer. As a director he is best known for his 2000 film Subconscious Cruelty, and as co-writer of The Abandoned, film of Nacho Cerdà. In 2006, he adapted Marie-Claire Blais book, La Belle Bête. He won the Director's Award at the Boston Underground Film Festival for this adaptation. As a cinematographer his best known work is Brandon Cronenberg's Possessor, Jason Eisener's Hobo With A Shotgun, Brandon Cronenberg's Antiviral and many others. He is a full member of the Canadian Society Of Cinematographers.
