Gainsbourg, poète majeur
As part of FIL 2024, we are presenting two recorded performances that bridge the gap between theatre and cinema: a reading of Serge Gainsbourg's poems by actors Jane Birkin, Michel Piccoli, and Hervé Pierre; and a reading of libertarian poems by Jean-Louis Trintignant, set to Piazzolla's music performed by accordionist Daniel Mille.
Here's your chance to see again on the big screen this magnificent show presented at Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts as part of FIL in September 2015. This recording of Gainsbourg, poète majeur was made a few months later during its final performance at Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris on December 7, 2015.
What does Gainsbourg sound like when the music is forgotten, leaving only the enchantment of words to be heard? An incongruous undertaking, given that Gainsbourg's words and music seem to be interlinked together? Well, no. Even without its slow waltz, La Javanaise still turns heads, and without its macabre clatter, Le poinçonneur des lilas still puts holes in our hearts.
