Pietro Germi
Pietro Germi is an Italian filmmaker, screenwriter, actor, and producer. After focusing mainly on socially and politically driven dramas, he later turned his interest to comedy, creating films that maintained the social themes of his earlier work but with a satirical and cynical humor. The very term “Italian-style comedy” was inspired by one of his most influential films, Divorce Italian Style, which became a cornerstone of this artistic genre. The film won Best Comedy at the Cannes Film Festival and the Nastro d'argento for Best Screenplay in 1962, as well as the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 1963.
