Synopsis

Every year in April, the descendants of the Patriotes of Saint-Denis-sur-Richelieu gather in the maple groves to celebrate freedom in song. They commemorate, in the sugar shacks that had served as shelters for their ancestors, the victory of the Patriots of 1837 over the English enemy, five times superior. Despite the repression that followed and the hanging to which many of the rebels were condemned, the inhabitants of this region are happy to honor the pride and spirit of independence shown by their ancestors.

Synopsis

What about the musical traditions of Poitou today? This film was made in this region of France, where traditional Quebec music has its roots, to answer this question. A commentary gives us the historical context in which our ancestors lived in the 17th century when they left for New France. At the Dognon, in the company of the descendants of those who stayed behind, we attend an evening of old-fashioned songs and dances.

Synopsis

In Vieille Mine, Missouri, USA, there is a French-speaking community descended from 18th century French and Quebec voyageurs and traders. But the big companies from the South took over the mining industry, the use of French was forbidden in school and the people eventually forgot their songs. The elders try to make us understand, with the last words they have, how they lived and why "c'est pu comme ça anymore".
