Synopsis

They are afflicted with schizophrenia, a variety of neuroses, depression, addiction, rock-bot-tom self-esteem. At Manoir Gaulin, a private hospice resembling an abandoned motel, on the outskirts of downtown Saint-Hyacinthe near Highway 20, the 40-plus residents live in tiny, isolated rooms. And they refuse to give up the little care they have. One day in 2012, the Manoir and the vacant lot next door were bought by a businessman with plans to build a shopping centre. Co-directed by Martin Fournier and Pier-Luc Latulippe, Manoir is a beauti-ful and sad film, keenly aware of these marginal souls’ distress without being patronizing. Moving and luminous.
