Cinema is a screen onto which we can project our fears, torments and the monstrosities of the world. The screen protects us from what we see, but cinema has also permanently anchored our nightmares around a few powerful images (empty houses, hostile attics and basements, demonic masks, bloodcurdling grimaces, disturbing postures). Throughout the summer, the Cinémathèque québécoise will be presenting a series of films encompassing more than one hundred and twenty years of horror, reminding us that what scares us most is to make the deepest of our fears tangible and credible.

SLAXX tells the story of a possessed pair of jeans brought to life to punish the unscrupulous practices of a trendy clothing company. Shipped to the company’s flagship store, Slaxx proceeds to wreak carnage on the staff, locked in overnight to set up the new collection.
When the body count mounts, the panicked staff disbands and the struggle for survival begins. It is up to idealistic employee Libby to uncover the reason behind SLAXX’s blood thirst before its evil is released into the world.
Elza Kephart
Elza Kephart is a Canadian director based in Montreal, Quebec. She has her own production company, Midnight Kingdom Films. Elza Kephart's first feature film is Graveyard Alive: A Zombie Nurse in Love, which she wrote, directed and produced. The film was well received by critics and appreciated for its camp horror style and modern feminist motifs, while evoking the traditional black-and-white era. Since its premiere in 2003, the film has been screened at over 20 international festivals and received numerous awards. In 2013, Kephart directed Go Into the Wilderness, shot in Quebec's remote North Shore region. In 2020, Kephart completed work on his horror/comedy film Slaxx.
