Billy Wilder

Samuel Wilder, known as Billy Wilder, is an American director, producer and screenwriter of black films and comedies, born June 22, 1906 in Sucha and died March 27, 2002 in Beverly Hills, California, United States. Billy Wilder is one of the most important figures of American cinema of the twentieth century, especially of the 1950s and 1960s. Four of his films are included in the Top 100 of the American Film Institute, as are Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick . He has directed fourteen different actors who have been nominated for their Oscar performance. In the ranking of Sight & Sound magazine, he is in seventh place for the greatest directors. Billy Wilder received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1986, awarded by the American Film Institute once a year to an actor or director who has achieved an outstanding career.
