Synopsis

Solange, a day-care educator, lives a peaceful life with Charles, until the day Fabienne arrives at her home, claiming to be her older sister. Surprised at first, she finally invites her to stay. But the strange reconciliation soon becomes a nightmare, as the intruder turns out to be extremely tormented. The film alternates between sequences shot on video as the actresses rehearse their roles, and fictional scenes that gradually build up a highly inventive universe.

Two Can Play

Micheline Lanctôt

Initially an animation filmmaker, Micheline Lanctôt began a prolific career in front of the camera. She then moved on to writing and directing. Her second feature, Sonatine, won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 1984. In 1994, Deux actrices won Best Film at the Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois. Since then, she has alternated between acting, writing and directing, while teaching directing at Concordia University since 1981.

In 2002, after a few years as a director, she produced, wrote and directed Le piège d'Issoudun (The Issoudun Trap). She went on to direct the feature films Suzie, Pour l'amour de Dieu and, most recently, Autrui. Micheline Lanctôt also directed the TV films Les guerriers and Onzième spéciale, as well as the documentaries Le mythe de la bonne mère and La poursuite du bonheur. In 2014, she received the Jutra Hommage award for lifetime achievement.
