Stanley Kubrick: A Cinematic Odyssey

As summer begins, we invite you to rediscover the full body of work of the legendary Stanley Kubrick on the big screen. From war films to period pieces, from science fiction to horror, from dystopian fiction to satire, the filmmaker transcended genres, delivered one masterpiece after another, and never ceased to innovate. In dialogue with his work, we present two documentaries that inspired him for 2001 and Full Metal Jacket respectively: Universe by Canadian filmmakers Roman Kroitor and Colin Low; and Basic Training by Frederick Wiseman, whose memory we honor following his recent passing.

Conference by Victor Norek (Le CinématoGrapheur)

Spanning science fiction, horror, historical epics, and war films, Stanley Kubrick produced a succession of masterpieces driven by unparalleled directorial ambition. This conference explores the key milestones of his filmography to uncover how he became one of cinema's truly larger-than-life icons.

Duration: 90 min.

Victor Norek created the YouTube channel Le CinématoGrapheur to analyze and dissect blockbusters, with the aim of restoring popcorn cinema to its former glory. He is the author of the book Steven Spielberg: L'art du blockbuster and writes for Rockyrama magazine in France. He has been based in Montreal since 2021.

This discussion will take place in French.
