2023 Residency
From April 17 to May 24, we will be hosting our sixth Animation Residency for six young artists from here and abroad. Each artist will be associated with a mentor, chosen amongst the city's animation film professionals. They will be responsible for coaching them and providing them with inspiration. The residents will have over a month to develop their project thanks to the expertise available at the Cinémathèque, our vast animation collections as well as Montreal's cultural buzz.
The Cinémathèque québécoise would like to thank the Consulat général de France à Québec, the Consulate General of Switzerland in Montreal, SWISS FILMS, the National Film Board of Canada as well as the patrons Jean-Philippe Fauteux and Marthe Cousineau without whom this residency would not be possible.
L’expérience a démontré le succès de ce programme : depuis sa création, sept œuvres ont déjà été terminées : Étreintes de Justine Vuylsteker (France, résidente 2016), Aérobie de Bastien Dupriez (France, résident 2016), la série Caresses magiques, de Lori Malépart-Traversy (Québec, résidente 2016), Mouvements de Dahee Jeong (Corée, résidente 2017), The Fourfold d’Alisi Telengut (Québec, résidente 2016), La soupe de Franzy d’Ana Chubinidze (Géorgie, résidente 2018), La passante de Hannah Letaïf (Belgique, résidente 2017), Box Cutters de Naomi Van Niekerk (Afrique du Sud, résidente 2018), La saison pourpre de Clémence Bouchereau (France, résidente 2018), L’ombre des papillons de Sofia El Khyari (France, résidente 2019), de même que l’installation Monade, de Boris Labbé (France, résident 2019). Plusieurs autres projets sont présentement en cours de production.
Il est intéressant de noter que les trois derniers titres, Box Cutters, La saison pourpre et L’ombre des papillons, sont sélectionnés en compétition officielle des courts métrages du prochain Festival international du film d’animation d’Annecy.
